It’s no doubt we see thousands of items surrounding us every day.  Think of your ceiling fan, the front porch rug, or the chair you are sitting in now. Products are everywhere; each with their own unique story to tell. Whether in a large factory, or hand-knit by a local craftsman, products are being produced everywhere around us. While some products are produced half way around the world, others are produced right here in our own backyards.Today we will explore three products made in South Dakota.

Hot Air Balloons—Located in Sioux Falls South Dakota, Raven Industries Aerostar division, has produced balloons for the Thanksgiving Macy’s Day parade in New York, NASA, and even the U.S. Navy.  The company produces many different types of balloons including: Thuderhead Balloons, Super Pressure Balloons, Zero Pressure Balloons, Sounding Balloons, and Stratospheric Airships.   These balloons have powerful applications for uncovering new research, providing accurate navigation, surveillance and more. The highly reliable balloons can reach unparalleled heights and have been used in the science and military sectors for decades.

Paint Sprayers—Next time you stop in Home Depot or Lowes, wander through the painting aisles and look for Graco products.  Graco is a manufacturing company also in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  They are a fluid handling equipment manufacturer and produce paint sprayers, pumps and everything in between. Graco prides themselves in the quality of their products, their industry-leading innovations, and their exceptional customer service.  Many of their products are sold to the construction, manufacturing, processing and maintenance industries.   Their work goes far beyond the borders of South Dakota. In fact, they sprayed the paint on the White House in Washington D.C. and stripes on the field at Wembley Stadium in London.

Scoreboards—Whether you are cheering on your high school football team or watching a major league game, chances are you will see a digital display made by Daktronics.  Daktronics builds LED scoreboards and signs used in businesses and communities all over the nation.  Their signs have many applications.  Take for example gas prices at convenience stores, the flight information displayed at airports, digital advertising in shopping malls and updates on freeways. All signs helpful for navigating through life.  Daktronics quick adaptability, trusted experience, and reliability, makes them a preferred choice for customers.

All three examples are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the amount of amazing products we make here in South Dakota. We are extremely fortunate to have many innovative, hard-working, and unique manufacturers scattered across the state. Manufacturers are responsible for the quality products we all come love and use in our everyday lives. As we think of all the products surrounding us, let us appreciate and support our local manufacturers and enjoy the great products they produce.
